One-bedroom apartment with sea view balcony, barbecue and patio, located just a few minutes from the center of Funchal, perfect for a vacation on Madeira Island.
Casa Strelitzia is a traditional Madeira house in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, Funchal’s Old Town, with special architectural and historical interest. It is within walking distance of the Central Market and Promenade do Porto, making it one of the few holiday properties in such a central and prestigious area. The property is split over two floors: the first-floor holiday home sleeps up to six people, and the studio above sleeps two. Booked together, the whole property accommodates eight guests—ideal for celebrating Madeira’s famous New Year’s Eve fireworks. Each flat has a balcony with fabulous sea views, perfect for breakfast, evening drinks, or sunbathing. Amenities include free WiFi, satellite TV, a comfortable sofa, dining area, well-equipped kitchen (with oven, microwave, fridge, toaster, coffee machine, kettle, and utensils), private bathrooms with shower, hairdryer, free toiletries, bed linen, and towels. A 24-hour reception, run by An Island Apart, is available for any eventuality. The courtyard below and rear access are shared by both apartments, featuring a table and chairs for relaxing or entertaining, a traditional volcanic stone BBQ, concealed washing machine and dryer, and access to a shared basement garage with secure parking for one car per apartment. WI-FI is available in all areas. AREA Casa Strelitzia offers city views and is close to Funchal Marina, São Tiago Fort, and Funchal Cathedral. Cristiano Ronaldo Madeira International Airport is 18 km away, with a paid airport shuttle service available. The property is near the Mercado de Lavradores and typical Madeiran restaurants. Tourist information offices can provide details on cultural, extreme, and nature activities. GETTING AROUND Transfers can be arranged with local partners (cheaper than airport taxis). The property is easily found via navigation apps, and there is a bus stop 2 minutes away. ACCESS TO PROPERTY Guests have access to all areas of the property. INTERACTION The team is always available to help or answer questions, with an app for guests containing important property and local information. OTHER OBSERVATIONS - All guests must present valid ID (passport or identity card) as per Portuguese law. - Check-in must be scheduled in advance (at least 48 hours prior). - Bed linen and towels are provided. Baby cot, high chair, and baby bath available on request. - First aid kit, extinguishers, and fire blanket are on the property. ATTENTION A Tourist Fee of €2.00 per person/night (aged 13+), up to 7 nights (€14 max per person/stay), is charged in Funchal. A payment link will be provided upon arrival. HOUSE RULES To ensure a pleasant stay for everyone, we ask that you observe a few simple rules. • Smoking is not permitted inside the property. • Parties or events are not permitted. • We ask that you be considerate of the neighbours and keep noise levels down, especially at night. The property may be equipped with a smart sensor (Minut) that monitors noise, smoke and temperature levels, solely for safety reasons. This system does not record conversations or collect personal data. Should abnormal levels be detected, you may receive a message from our team asking you to check the situation. In accordance with Portuguese law, all guests must present valid identification for registration. A municipal tourist tax may be charged (€2 per person per night, up to a maximum of 7 nights). Très bon séjour dans ce logement proche du centre ville avec une vue très agréable. Le logement est grand pour deux personnes ce qui est appréciable. Il était propre et très bien rangé. Le logement étant divise nous sommes tombé sur des personnes bruyantes, le manque d’isolement nous a empêché de dormir. Cependant, l’hôte a été très réactif et à notre écoute ce qui été fort appréciable. Merci beaucoup pour votre accueil, nous avons passé un agréable séjour.

The appartement is very nice and the location is amazing, 5 minutes to walk to the city center and the sea. The terrasse is also very lovely, the pillows of the chairs outside could be cleaner. It it true that there is a strong humidity smell in the bathroom then it is impossible to not close the door otherwise you smell very strongly the humidity. It smells like a swimming pool. And also the electric blind was not correctly working, they should repair this. We also would have liked another pair of towels because we had to use the same for the entire week. Excepted that, we recommend this place!

We had a great stay at the apartment, perfectly located near city center with a nice balcony facing the ocean. It is quite well equipped (coffee machine, freezer, hairdryer, large bed...) and the communication with the team was very easy. There is indeed a small odor in the bathroom, but nothing a bit of vmc or aeration can fix.

The first impression of the space was positive. Apartment is bright and full of space with a beautiful view on a port, with a garage - really nice! However, after a few days we discovered several issues that significantly lowered our overall experience. 1. Communication with the host was challenging. Not all messages received a response, and some replies were unclear or not helpful. 2. Upon arrival, we noticed a sewage smell in the apartment. Initially, we assumed it might be due to the apartment being closed for some time before our stay. Unfortunately, after a few days it became clear that the problem was recurring. Both the kitchen sink and the shower were emitting a very unpleasant sewage odour. At times, the smell in the bathroom was so strong that was hard to use it comfortably. 3. Maintenance issues We encountered a few technical problems during our stay. Overall, it felt as though the apartment had not been properly checked prior to being rented out.

Die Bäder müssten mal richtig gereinigt werden, besonders die Dusche. Nach dem wir uns beschwerd haben wurde mal durchgewischt aber nicht wie wir es kennen mit einem Eimer Wasser und Reinigungsmittel, sondern die Reinigungskraft hatte eine Sprühflasche dabei, drei Spritzer auf den Boden und einem Schrubber mit Wischtuch wurde der Schmutz gleichmäßig in der Wohnung verteilt. Ein Staubsauger war auch nicht vorhanden, sonst hätten wir mal durch gesaugt. Keine Auflagen für die Sonnenliegen, trotz nachfrage wurden auch keine vorbei gebracht. Das Geschirr konnte nur mit fliesendem Wasser gereinigt werden, weil kein Abflußstopfen vorhanden war. Im Schrank unter der Spüle roch es sehr unangenehm. Wenn die o.g. Mängel nicht vorhanden gewesen wären, wäre die Wohnung Top.
